On the day of the funeral, Guardian Funeral Home takes care of registering the death electronically. This information goes directly to Births, Deaths and Marriages, who then process the registration and post a certified copy of the death certificate to us, usually within five working days.

Once we receive it, we will send the official death certificate straight to you, or if you prefer, to the solicitor handling the estate. If you need extra copies, we are happy to provide JP-certified copies, which are often needed when dealing with banks and other organisations after someone has passed away

When we arrange the funeral with you, we will collect the legal information required to register the death. It is very important that these details are accurate, so we will always give you a copy to review and confirm before we submit anything officially.

If the death has been referred to the Coroner, the certificate will note ‘subject to the coroner’s findings’ in the cause of death section, this means the cause is still being determined. Once the Coroner has finished their enquiries, it’s possible to update the certificate with the final cause of death if you need.
